General Lich chairs the event.

Speaking at the event, General Lich praised and acknowledged the remarkable achievements obtained by the military in December. Mentioning the impacts of the complicated international, regional, and domestic situation on the military’s task implementation, Lich asked the whole military to focus on key missions in the coming time. Particularly, military units should strictly maintain combat readiness regulations, accurately predict possible scenarios, ensure security and safety during the New Year holiday and at the 13th National Party Congress, and ready forces to respond to natural disasters and conduct search and rescue missions. He urged the entire military to take various measures to prevent illegal immigration and put immigrants under quarantine, contributing to the nation’s effort in COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.

In addition, units in the whole military should review their task implementation in 2020 and develop training plans for 2021. Particularly, military academies and schools should review their enrollment work in 2020, roll out their missions for next year, and build an education and training program for 2021. The Border Guard Command and Coast Guard should increase land and coastal border inspections so as to crack down on drug trafficking, smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal migration cases, especially before the Lunar New Year 2021.

Together with following situational development, maintaining combat readiness, and responding to national disaster and incidents, the Defense Minister asked the whole military to promote political and ideological education and combat against the wrongful allegations of hostile forces and reactionaries. Defense agencies and military units should effectively carry out logistics and financial investment plans while ensuring weapons, technical equipment, and vehicles for missions.

He urged the whole military to prioritize forces for the protection of borders, seas, and islands. They should also promote training and accelerate the fight against drug trafficking, smuggling, and trade fraud before, during, and after the coming Lunar New Year.
