The event also saw the attendance of Vo Van Thuong, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Communications; General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army; Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications; Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the VPA’s General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister; among others.

Delivering a report at the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the VPA’s General Department of Politics, held that under the instructions of the CMC Standing Committee and the Defense Minister, the General Department of Politics directed military press units to team up with civilian press and media agencies nationwide to effectively disseminate military and defense missions, defense external affairs, and major political events of the country and the military.

The work has contributed to educating and encouraging cadres and soldiers in the military to do their utmost to complete their tasks, he added.

In addition, the year of 2018 witnessed an active, comprehensive, and effective coordination between the General Department of Politics and relevant bodies of ministries and sectors, especially of the Commission for Information and Communications, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and press and media agencies across the country, concluded General Nghia.

Sharing the same view, delegates underlined the press and media’s important role in, responsibility for, and contribution to disseminating reliable information about the VPA’s glorious traditions, military-defense missions, the noble image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, and the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite and increasingly modern military.

In his remarks, General Lich, on behalf of the CMC and MND, thanked all press and media agencies for disseminating effectively military activities and for advocating and encouraging troops across the military to complete their assignments.

The defense minister informed delegates of the whole military’ achievements in task performance in 2018.

At present, the military is one of the main targets of hostile forces. Therefore, General Lich urged the press and media agencies to join hands with the military press and media sector to fight plots and activities of reactionary and hostile forces. He also stressed that the CMC and MND have paid due attention to developing the military press and media sector, including building a new facility for the Military Broadcasting Center, building the People’s Army Newspaper (PAN) into one of the six major national multimedia news agencies by 2025 in line with the government’s project, and improving their staff’s professionalism and qualifications.

This year, the defense minister asked the General Department of Politics to hold more seminars between military and civilian press and media agencies on the themes related to the cause of the military building, and the fight against the “peaceful evolution” plot of hostile forces. He acknowledged, the PAN has well carried out such activities over the past time.

General Lich hoped that central and local press management agencies and the press and media would further cooperate with the CMC, MND and the General Department of Politics to get reliable sources of information about military and defense missions, and defense external affairs, and in the fight against plots, tricks and activities of hostile forces in 2019 and the years ahead.

The defense minister believed that the dissemination of information about the implementation of military and defense missions and defense external affairs would continue to contribute to developing the military, reinforcing defense-security postures and defending the country in the current context.

In turn, General Cuong expressed his thanks for the care and close instruction of the CMC and MND to military press and media agencies, and acquire the directions of the defense minister.
