The event also drew the attendance of Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, and representatives of the MND’s functional units.

Last year, under the leadership of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and MND, the work was actively and effectively implemented, meeting all strategic targets, thus deepening relations, protecting national interests, and contributing to the settlement of international development, peace, and security issues.

Meanwhile, relevant forces also made timely proposals to effectively handle relations, ensuring the balancing of interests between Vietnam and other countries. As a result, bilateral and multilateral defense relations activities satisfied all political, defense, security, and foreign affairs goals. It affirmed that defense relations work is an important measure for the early protection of the Fatherland from afar by peaceful means, making contribution to the cause of national construction and defense, intensifying political trust and heightening Vietnam’s and its military’s stature in the international arena.

An overview of the event

Addressing the event, General Chien acknowledged and hailed the great efforts of units in the whole military in the implementation of international integration and defense relations work. He also requested them to fully embrace and strictly implement directives and resolutions of the Party, State, CMC and MND on international integration and defense external affairs in line with the current context.

Furthermore, they should have a thorough understanding of global and regional situations and make recommendations to higher levels in order to effectively respond to international relations and implement defense external affairs while meeting strategic goals and safeguarding national interests.

Besides, the deputy defense minister also asked the MND’s functional units to develop defense cooperation in a substantive, stable, and highly effective manner, promote defense diplomacy activities in border areas in order to elevate multilateral ties to the next level, and actively take part in U.N. peacekeeping operations, among others.
