The opening remark delivered at the event reviewed the 75-year construction, combat, and development of Vietnam’s arms industry (now called the General Department of Defense Industry). In recent years, the general department has studied, designed, manufactured, and repaired different kinds of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment for infantry divisions and technical equipment for services and arms. Along with manufacturing weapons and equipment for defense missions, the sector gradually combined defense and economic development missions and strengthened the production of commercial products. As a result, many commercial products produced by its factories gained a firm foothold in the market, contributing to raising capabilities of and modernizing the defense industry sector.

Addressing the event, General Ngo Xuan Lich praised the breakthrough development and glorious tradition of the defense industry sector over the past 75 years. He also highlighted the great contributions of generations of troops, staff, and workers who served in the arms industry in the past and those who presently work with the defense industry sector to the success of the Vietnam People’s Army over the past time.

General Lich asked the general department to embrace and strictly and effectively implement resolutions, directives, and decisions of the Party, State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense on military and defense missions, especially resolutions on building and developing the defense industry in 2020 and in the years to come. The service should promote its advisory role to help the Party and State develop sound guidelines and policies to build and develop the defense industry to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization in the military and national construction and defense in the new period.

The Defense Minister urged the general department to continue following the Fourth Industrial Revolution and manufacturing weapons and military equipment for missions. He asked the service to pay attention to political and ideological education to raise political stance and revolutionary ethics for its troops and workers and build contingents of competent troops and workers that are capable of successfully fulfilling all missions assigned by the Party, State, army, and people.

Defense industry units should promote mass mobilization activities in localities where they are stationed while carrying out policies for troops and their families. The General Department of Defense Industry should also have appropriate policies to attract competent personnel and attach importance to training leadership and management officers.
