Engineers hone skills for UN peacekeeping missions
PANO - The Engineer Corps on December 11 held a refresher course for the engineer company which will take part in UN peacekeeping operations.
Major General Phung Ngoc Son, Commander of the Engineer Corps, and representatives from the corps and the Ministry of National Defense’s affiliated units attended the opening ceremony.
The course aimed at evaluating their coordination as well as capability in handling any problems to fulfill missions of the engineer company. Lessons learnt from the course will be used for next courses for the engineers so that they could prepare for other exercises, hosted by the UN, to evaluate their competence before deployment to UN peacekeeping missions.
The one-day long course included various categories, such as erecting field barracks, UXO clearance, constructing facilities of an airport, repairing houses and roads for local people, and conducting logistic and technical services.
Besides, the engineers joined training sessions according to assumed close-to-reality scenarios at UN peacekeeping missions.
On implementing Decision No.1338 of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on training engineers of the Engineering Corps to participate in UN peacekeeping operations, since 2016, the corps has carried out various courses to train its engineers, building their capacity in preparation for various UN peacekeeping operations.
