At the event, VNDPKO Director Major General Hoang Kim Phung affirmed that Vietnam has reaped good results in joining UN peacekeeping operations over the past seven years, contributing to raising Vietnam’s prestige and position in the world. Vietnam’s active participation in UN activities has won high appreciation from the UN, international friends and local people.
General Phung also spoke highly of Vietnamese peacekeepers, saying that they have completed all missions assigned by the Party, the State, and the UN while raising their political awareness and improving their professional expertise.
Deputy FM Giang, who is head of the inter-sectoral group overseeing Vietnam's tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and deputy head of the inter-sectoral group on Vietnam's participation in UN peacekeeping operations, stressed that Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations is part of the major policy of the Party and State that demonstrates the country’s intensive and comprehensive international integration and multilateralization and diversification of international relations.

The diplomat suggested the department consider expanding the participation of Vietnamese peacekeepers to more locations and fields, while taking advantage of international cooperation and external resources to improve the forces’ capacity and expertise.
The VNDPKO was also asked to conduct more studies on peacekeeping to give recommendations to the Party and State to devise policies and approaches to raise the efficiency of Vietnamese peacekeeping forces’ engagement in the field. Moreover, it should boost dissemination of information about its activities and role models in the field, thus promoting political and cultural diplomacy and popularizing images of a peace-loving nation whose people actively contribute to global peace and stability.
Also at the meeting, Deputy FM Giang emphasized that the Foreign Ministry’s leaders will direct its affiliates to work closely with the department to comprehensively carry out missions and plans. In the short term, they will focus on sending military engineers to a suitable peacekeeping mission as soon as possible.
Giang affirmed he believes that under the direction of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense, the department will soon realize its goal of becoming a peacekeeping training center in the region and the world.
