Making island more beautiful

I have visited Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) island many times, and each time, I was struck by how much more beautiful, resilient, and vibrant the island has become. The military barracks are spacious, clean, and regular, and the environment is green, clean, and beautiful. The island now has many projects featuring the joint efforts of people from all regions of the country, as well as overseas Vietnamese.

Implementing the “Greening Truong Sa” program, packets of seeds, green shoots, seedlings, and bags of soil from local authorities, businesses, benefactors, and people from the mainland have been sent to the archipelago. Naval troops have then carefully transported and planted them on the islands. With creativity and talent, these troops have become the “agricultural engineers” of Truong Sa’s nurseries.

Commander Mai Van Luu, Deputy commanding officer of Song Tu Tay island, shared that each year, the island’s nursery produces over 3,000 saplings of different types, mainly square-fruit Malabar Almond trees, Heliotropium foertherianum, and tropical almond trees.

Spreading good deeds across islands

Each island in Truong Sa has found its own creative approach to building strength in every aspect. During my visits, I was impressed by the pioneering and exemplary spirit of officers and Party members, and the vanguard and enthusiastic spirit of youth union members. They help unlock the potential and creativity of the military and civilians in fulfilling their duties.

Walking around Sinh Ton Dong (Sin Cowe East) island, I felt like strolling through a peaceful village on the mainland. According to Lieutenant Commander Nguyen Duy Huy, Commanding officer of the island, officers and soldiers deal with salty winds and harsh conditions all year round; however, regardless of difficulties, they have maintained thriving plants and livestock."

Truong Sa Island is also called the "capital" of Truong Sa island district, serving as the administrative center. To maximizing the use of facilities, troops on the island have strictly observed military discipline and combat readiness regulations while effectively implementing the “Vietnam People’s Navy stands as a fulcrum for fishermen to reach out to the sea” program.
