Deputy Defense Minister Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh speaks at the opening ceremony of the course.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the training course, Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh thanked Japan and TPP member countries for choosing Vietnam as the host of the training course. This is the second course held by Vietnam after the success of the first one in 2019 and the pilot course in 2018.

The deputy defense minister required that the VNDPKO and relevant units and agencies of Vietnam actively implement activities in the course as planned in order to make it as successful as possible. He also hoped that partners within the project continue supporting in Vietnam in 2020 when the country is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and Chair of ASEAN.

For his part, Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan Norihiro Nakayama believed that the course is a good chance for Vietnam and Japan as well as other TPP member countries to contribute more to UN peacekeeping operations.

As planned, the course lasts from February 10 to 14 and is joined by twenty trainees from the five countries of Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam and 29 Japanese lecturers and TPP coordinators.

The training course aims to improve the professional skills and competence of peacekeepers in operating and recovering heavy engineering equipment when working at UN peacekeeping missions. The course also helps promote the image of Vietnam and its capabilities and contributions to UN peacekeeping operations.
