General Thanh is a hero of the people’s armed forces, a wounded soldier in the resistance war against the U.S. imperialists and national salvation, and a son of a soldier who sacrificed his life in the resistance war against the French colonialists.

The visit was on the occasion of the 73rd Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27).

At the meeting, the Defense Minister gave a briefing on the current national political and socio-economic situations, outstanding achievements in military-building, the military’s task performance in the first half of this year, and gratitude activities conducted by defense agencies and military units.

General Lich emphasized defense agencies and military units’ good results in preparing and organizing Party congresses at all levels and preparations for the 11th Military Party Congress and the 13th National Party Congress as well as the military’s success in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

General Lich affirmed that in any situation, troops are always loyal to the Party, State and people. They will further study, follow their ancestors’ example and morals to make more contributions to the country, and promote the good virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in the current period. They will also stay united, exert all-out effort, overcome challenges and be determined to complete all missions, thereby building a politically, ideologically, morally and organizationally-strong military, firmly safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

He hoped that General Thanh will further contribute to the national construction and development cause, military building, and defense consolidation.

For his part, General Thanh thanked the CMC, the Ministry of National Defense, the military’s servicemen and workers, and General Lich for their care for him and his family. He expressed his delight at the military’s accomplishments in the past, especially in training, combat readiness, COVID-19 prevention, and other unscheduled missions.

Thanh believes that under the wise leadership of the Party and the CMC, the military will become stronger and undertake and fulfill all missions assigned by the Party, State and people.

General Cuong wishes Former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu good health.

* The same day, General Luong Cuong, permanent member of the CMC and Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP), visited and gave presents to former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, former member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and former Deputy Head of the State Council General Nguyen Quyet, and former Politburo member Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Thanh Ngan. All of the hosts are former directors of the GDP.

At the meetings, General Cuong wished the three retired senior officials good health and hoped that they will continue making contributions to the Party’s revolutionary cause, and the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite, and gradually-modernized military.

He briefed the hosts on the military’s task implementation, Party and political work, and gratitude activities since the beginning of this year. He highlighted the political and ideological stability in the military, the protection of the Party’s ideological foundation, the fight against hostile forces and distorted information, and meaningful deeds for national contributors.

Former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, General Nguyen Quyet, and Sr. Lt. Gen. Pham Thanh Ngan applauded the military’s Party and political work and gratitude activities. They expressed their hope that the GDP will continue to improve their advisory task performance, direct the implementation of higher levels’ resolutions and directives, improve political and ideological education for troops so that they will have a firm political stance, and high determination to accomplish all assignments.

* On July 21, a mission from the CMC and MND, led by Sr. Lt. Gen. Tran Quang Phuong, member of the CMC and Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics, visited the Vietnam Friendship Village which is taking care of numerous war veterans, former volunteer youths, and over 100 young victims of Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin.

Gen. Phuong showed sympathy for those under treatment and care in the village and thanked the village’s staff and workers for their high sense of responsibility and devotion, contributing to relieving the AO pains and beautifying the national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source.”

On the occasion, the mission presented 41 gifts to groups and individuals at the village.
