Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich chaired the meeting, which also saw the presence of the Head of the Central Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, Director of the General Department of Politics, General Luong Cuong, and other leaders of Central agencies, defense agencies, general departments, military services and corps.

The meeting was also attended by 203 representatives of units and individuals who have obtained great achievements in the implementation of the campaign over the past five years.

Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, on behalf of the Central Military Commission, the Defense Ministry and General Department of Politics, briefed the delegates on outcomes of the campaign in the past five years, saying that under the sound leadership of the Central Military Commission and specific instructions of the Defense Ministry and the General Department of Politics, the Party committees and chains-of-command of defense agencies and military units have conducted the campaign in a comprehensive and innovative manner.

Particularly, agencies and units implemented the campaign in a creative way by coupling it with relevant contents of the Politburo’s Directives on enhancing the movement “Learning and following Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, morals and style,” resolutions of the Party Central Committee on improving personnel work and heightening the responsibilities of Party members and leaders of agencies and units at all levels. As a result, troops in the military participated actively and effectively in the campaign. They overcame difficulties and hardships in life and at work and successfully fulfilled their assigned tasks while also contributing to building a comprehensively powerful military and firmly protecting national independence, sovereignty and the revolutionary achievements that have been reached by the people and military under the leadership of the Party and State.

At the meeting, delegates listened to reports from troops who had outstanding achievements in the implementation of the campaign. Some of them are leaders of agencies and units who had quality methods in conducting the campaign in their agencies and units; as a result, their agencies and units have always successfully accomplished their missions over the past five years and have become a comprehensively strong unit.

Other exemplary officers shared their experiences of improving themselves following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, continuously self-studying and seeking innovations at work, and striving to make more contribution to building their units.

Addressing the meeting, General Lich hailed the efforts and achievements of all officers, soldiers, and defense workers in implementing the campaign in the past five years. The Defense Minister reassured the significance of the campaign to all defense agencies and military units as well as to all officers, soldiers and defense workers. He asked Party committees under the Central Military Commissions and chains-of-command under the Defense Ministry to continue the implementation of Directive 855 issued on August 12, 2019, by the Permanent Board of the Central Military Commission on enhancing the campaign “Promoting glorious tradition, devoting talent, deserving to be Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” in the time to come.

General Lich also requested the Party committees and chains-of-command of all defense agencies and military units to actively fight and defeat any hostile forces’ “peaceful evolution” plots and activities on ideological and cultural fronts. They should also continue holding back the degradation of politics, morals and lifestyles, and struggling against any manifestations of “self-transformation” and “self-evolution,” in their agencies and units. Defense agencies and military units should also strictly maintain military discipline, observe the laws, and keep their troops away from social evils.

The Defense Minister requested political bodies at all levels and the military press and media to enhance information and dissemination of the goals, requirements, and significance of the campaign across the military. The military press and media as well as the art and cultural sector should have more good pieces on the campaign and excellent examples in the campaign.

At the meeting, 203 groups and individuals were presented with certificates of merits by the Defense Minister. During the five years of the campaign's implementation, 27 groups and individuals were granted the title “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” or “Hero of Labor” in the renewal period, and many other groups and individuals received various awards from the Government and the Defense Ministry.
