At the launch ceremony

The festival was also in response to the government’s program of planting one billion green trees, themed “For a green Vietnam.”

Tree planting, initiated by President Ho Chi Minh, has been one of the beautiful traditions of the Vietnamese people for more than six decades. Held annually in the springtime, the festival always receives the active response of the whole political system, agencies at all levels, people, and troops in the whole military.

Together with launching their tree planting movements, agencies and units under the General Staff have cooperated with local Party Committees, authorities, agencies, and units to plant, take care, and protect trees, contributing to improving eco-environment, reducing impacts of natural disasters, building green-clean-beautiful barracks, and developing socio-economy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong asked party committees and chains-of-command of units under the General Staff to promote information dissemination and education to raise their personnel’s awareness of the great significance and humane values of tree planting and forest protection.

The chief of the General Staff added that together with planting trees, agencies and units under the General Staff should carefully take care of them and apply information technology and technical advances to raise the survival rate and effectiveness of trees. He also urged agencies and units to regular check and evaluate their personnel’s tree planting and protection and honor those with great achievements in the work in a timely manner.
