At the working session with the Naval Region 5 Command on March 25 on its implementation of military and defense missions in the first quarter of this year, the deputy defense minister asked the naval region’s agencies and units to closely work with local Party committees, authorities, and other military forces to ensure security and public order and firmly safeguard national sovereignty over sea and islands.

During the event, the defense leader also emphasized the strategic position of the southwestern waters and islands. Mentioning the complicated developments of the regional and international situations, increased reactionary activities of hostile forces, and the pandemic situation, General San asked the Naval Region 5 Command to seriously study and effectively carry out resolutions of the Central Military Commission (CMC) on military and defense missions in 2022. He also urged the region to pay attention to raising troops’ determination and firm willpower to effectively fulfill assigned missions.

Together with strictly maintaining combat readiness, the defense leader asked the naval region to focus on conducting mass mobilization activities at sea. In particular, naval troops should actively support fishermen and disseminate policies and law on fishing at sea to them. 

At the meeting, General San also praised Naval Region 5 for its achievements in implementing military, defense, defense relations, training, combat readiness, and Party building missions.

He evaluated that over the past time, with solidarity and determination, the naval region comprehensively fulfilled assigned missions, contributing greatly to firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands the Southwest.

The Deputy Defense Minister believed that with solidarity and high political determination, troops of Naval Region 5 will continue building a comprehensively strong region, successfully fulfill assigned missions, and firmly manage and safeguard sea and islands in the Southwest.

The same day, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San inspected and worked with the Military Region 9 Command, during which he praised the military region for its outstanding achievements over the past time.

In 2021 and the first three months of this year, Military Region 9 strictly embraced and effectively carried out the Party’s guidelines, State’s policies and law, and resolutions and directives of CMC and MND on military and defense missions. Agencies and units under the military region have closely followed situational development and made timely recommendation to the CMC, MND, and local Party committees and authorities to effectively deal with issues, especially in pandemic prevention and control.

Acknowledging Military Region 9’s achievements over the past time, the defense leader asked the military region to closely follow the situations in border areas, at sea, and on islands in the Southwest and adjust operational plans in line with reality.

He also urged the military region to focus on raising training quality and combat readiness capability, promoting discipline management and regularity building, closely following situational development, and building firm defensive areas. 

Together with carrying out defense relations affairs, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San asked the military region to well carry out the coordination regulations between Military Region 9 and the Vietnam Border Guard Command, the Navy, and the Coast Guard force, actively participate in patrols and search and rescue activities, and firmly protect national sovereignty.
