Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong speaks at the working session with the Naval Command.

Accordingly, the Quang Ninh Provincial Border Guard Command has closely followed higher levels’ resolutions on implementing their military-defense missions. Notably, since the appearance of the COVID-19 disease in late December 2019, the Provincial Border Guard Command has actively implemented preventive measures such as establishing 77 teams to monitor people on entry and stop the disease from spreading along the border line.

Over the past year and in the first four months of 2020, the local border guards have organized numerous events of law dissemination for thousands of troops and people. They have also detected and taken 299 Vietnamese citizens illegally returning from other countries to the concentrated quarantine areas.

Meanwhile, the Party Committee and Command of the Naval Service have directed their relevant units to enhance joint marine patrols, manage their stationed areas, and provide timely advice for higher levels to deal with unexpected situations and firmly safeguard national sovereignty over the seas and islands. The Service also signed cooperation agreements on disseminating information related to the national seas and islands with 63 localities.

Since the beginning of this year, troops of Southern naval units have joined hands with the locals to overcome the impacts of drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta.

Speaking at the events, General Cuong applauded the achievements of the units, especially in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he urged them to continuously surmount shortcomings and collaborate with relevant forces to firmly safeguard maritime and border security.

He asked the units’ leaderships at all levels to focus on improving their capabilities, grasping all situations, enhancing political education for troops while actively supporting local people in economic development, and building close relationships with the local authorities in their stationed areas.
