The visiting mission was led by Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Head of the Ministry of National Defense’s Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Ho Chi Minh City and southern localities.

Speaking at the meeting with the unit’s leaders, Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien acknowledged and lauded Army Corps 16 for its achievements obtained over the past time.

Particularly, the unit has over the past time studied and strictly implemented higher levels’ directives, promoted information dissemination, strictly observed combat readiness regulations and actively participated in pandemic prevention and control efforts. Army Corps 16 has administered 1,067 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to its troops and workers and 3,376 other doses to troops from other military units in Binh Phuoc province. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the unit has not recorded any infected cases or COVID-19 close contacts.

The unit also set up two quarantine zones, a field hospital and an area for treating patients while sending its medical personnel and ambulances to reinforce localities in the fight. It also dispatched 12 doctors and nurses to work at the Defense Ministry’s Field Hospital 5B in Binh Duong province.

Regarding duties in the coming time, General Tien asked the unit to continue disseminating information about the COVID-19 pandemic to augment local people’s awareness of and responsibility for SARS-CoV-2 prevention and control. He also urged Army Corps 16 to take better care of its troops and local people and to be a vanguard force in the COVID-19 containment.
