Defense chief attends ceremony honoring Department 16 with noble title

According to the report presented by Director of Department 16 Major General Tran Van To, the department has closely followed higher level directions. It has comprehensively implemented all aspects of work and successfully fulfilled assignments, with many areas achieving outstanding results. These achievements have significantly contributed to enabling General Department II to effectively advise Party and State leaders, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense in carrying out high-level external relations activities, preventing strategic surprise and unexpected developments in critical situations, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s prestige and position and directly contributing to safeguarding the Fatherland early and from afar.

Addressing the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang praised and congratulated Department 16 on its attainments, emphasizing that the Party and State’s decision to award the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” to Department 16 for the second time is a great honor and source of pride, but also a heavy responsibility that the unit in particular, and General Department II in general must clearly recognize and strive to fulfill even better in the coming period.

The defense chief asked the unit to remain absolutely steadfast in the principle that “the Party exercises absolute and direct leadership in all aspects over defense intelligence,” embrace and creatively apply the Party’s viewpoints and guidelines; and effectively implement Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s directions. The unit should also pay attention to preserving close ties with the people, continuously improving the leadership capacity and combat strength of Party organizations; and focusing on building a contingent of cadres and Party members capable of meeting mission requirements.
