Coast guard force disseminates regulations on IUU fishing prevention to fishermen.

At the event, representatives from the Coast Guard Region 2 Command provided owners of ships and fishermen in the locality with basic contents of the Vietnam Coast Guard Law, Law on Fisheries, and legal documents on fishing at sea as well as regulations on administrative punishment for violations in fishery sector and on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Over the past time, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command has pro-actively cooperated with local party committees, authorities, and relevant agencies to synchronously, flexibly, effectively take measures to end IUU fishing. In particular, the unit has fostered dissemination to enhance people’s awareness of the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on combining legal fishing and protection of national sovereignty over sea and islands.

On the occasion, the organizing panel handed over 30 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to needy fishermen, 500 national flags, and documents to ship owners and fishermen in coastal communes of Phu Vang district.

Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 2 Senior Colonel Tran Hong Que said that such an activity would help fishermen thoroughly grasp, thus strictly abiding by regulations when fishing at sea and contributing to the efforts of industries and the whole country in removing the European Commission's “yellow card.”
