General Luong Cuong, permanent member of the CMC, Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army and Head of the steering board, presided over the meeting.
In the first half of this year, the steering board actively advised the Politburo, the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, and the CMC on the direction of the safeguarding of the Party’s ideological foundation, the combat against wrongful viewpoints of hostile forces, the maintenance and enhancement of the Party’s leadership, the State’s management, and political and ideological stability in the military.

It also guided information dissemination on the country’s political events and other domestic and international opinions of common concern, oriented opinions of troops and the public to the right in a timely manner, ensured the Party’s ideological foundation in the military while boosting information on military-defense missions.
Under its direction, functional agencies and military units were active in closely following situational developments, handling unexpected issues, promoting dissemination on the ideological and cultural front. Meanwhile, military press and media agencies well performed their political missions, worked closely with other centrally-run and local press and media agencies to expand their columns, diversify dissemination forms, and effectively orient the public opinions to the right.
Regarding the missions for the remaining months of the year, the conference highlighted the effective implementation of military and defense tasks, strengthening the movement of “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals and lifestyle” in combination with the campaign of “Promoting tradition, devoting talent, deserving to be Uncle Ho’s soldiers.”
Other important tasks include finding, preventing and driving back signs of degradation in political ideology, morals and lifestyle, “self-evolution,” “self-transformation” within the military; studying, assessing, and forecasting situational development precisely, especially the hostile forces’ new tricks and plots; orientating opinions of troops and people to the right on the major political events and complicated and sensitive issues in the country, the region and the world; and building strong and healthy Party cells and comprehensively strong defense agencies and military units.
