Over the past time, the two Party committees have jointly led the comprehensive and effective implementation of the Party, State, CMC, and Ministry of National Defense (MND)’s policies on military-defense tasks and local socio-economic development, contributing to building a firm whole people’s defense posture coupled with the people’s security posture and a solid defensive area.

The two sides have closely and effectively worked together to lead socio-economic development, consolidate local defense and security, and promote external work. They have directed the development of various industries with high dual-use, the review and approval of socio-economic development plans and programs in line with regulations on defense.

Meanwhile, they have collaborated in directing departments, agencies and units to supplement and adjust plans and prepare enough personnel and vehicles to ensure social security; prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic; maintain political security as well as social order and safety; and successfully organize defensive area exercises. Thereby, the training quality and combat readiness capability of the city’s armed forces have improved significantly, contributing to building a strong and clean Party organization, and comprehensively-strong and “typical and exemplary” agencies and units, to name but a few.

In the coming time, the CMC, MND, and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee will continue to effectively implement the Party’s directives and resolutions on military and defense affairs, as well as the building of defense power, a strong defensive area, and firm whole people’s defense posture in association with the people’s security posture, meeting the requirements of the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.

Also, they will boost coordination in the leadership and directions of building and enhancing the quality and capability of combat readiness of the city armed forces; regularly follow local situations to handle unexpected issues in a timely manner; maintain political security, social order and safety; and ensure absolute safety for the locality’s significant political events. Along with that, information dissemination and the organization of practical activities will be carried out to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the Whole People's Defense Festive Day.

Speaking at the event, Secretary Nguyen Van Nen affirmed that over the past years, the city has attached much importance to implementing military and defense tasks associated with socio-economic and cultural development. Their effective collaboration has helped increase the quality of local military and defense missions, obtaining remarkable results.

Additionally, the city has carried out a large number of projects and military works while paying more attention to building the city’s armed forces to be comprehensively-strong.

In his concluding remarks, General Phan Van Giang stressed that the CMC and MND acknowledged and highly appreciated the outstanding achievements in military-defense work obtained by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee over the past time. He also pointed out shortcomings that would need to be fixed in the coming time.

The defense leader required the city to continue to focus on mapping out plans to build a regular and firm defensive area on par with its important position as the economic hub in the South, as well as effectively implement higher levels’ resolutions on the city development, military-defense together with the resolutions issued by the 13th Party Central Committee during its eighth plenum on strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.

Moreover, the city should well conduct enlistment work and military units stationed in the city should heighten their responsibility in combining the city’s development with the consolidation of defense and security postures.
