Brigade 490’s combat readiness work inspected
PANO - On February 8, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang inspected combat readiness in Brigade 490 under the Artillery Corps.
After inspecting Brigade 490’s combat readiness work, the defense minister pointed out both strengths and limitations in force deployment and equipment and weapon management. The minister urged Brigade 490 and the Artillery Corps to focus on training and leadership so as to meet training and combat readiness requirements.

Reporting on the corps’ task performance, Major General Nguyen Hong Phong, Commander of the Artillery Corps, affirmed that in 2024, the corps strictly ensured combat readiness, regularly updated the document system at all levels, and conducted training to ensure safety. It also successfully performed ceremonial gun salutes for international guests and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. Especially, command-staff and live-fire exercises were conducted in the whole corps at all levels with outstanding results, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.
Concluding the inspection, General Phan Van Giang hailed Brigade 490 for its efforts in training and combat readiness, meeting task requirements. He directed the Artillery Corps to closely grasp the situation of artillery forces in the whole military, pro-actively make recommendations to the Ministry of National Defense on the deployment of artillery units, and enhance training and combat readiness quality.

The defense leader underscored that the Artillery Corps must continue to strictly implement the Military and Defense Work Directive in 2025 issued by Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, ensure combat readiness, among others. In addition to training and education programs, the corps must focus on preparing for the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day’s 50th anniversary, as well as the 80th anniversary of the National Day, striving to accomplish all assigned tasks with absolute safety.
