In order to meet task requirements of protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands in the current context, and implement the guidelines of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense, on July 12, 2013, Artillery-Missile Brigade 167 was established and tasked with operating in campaigns of the Naval Service and of joint forces if required.

The establishment of the brigade marked the modern development of the Naval Service in the current context, contributing to the formation of a multi-service force to cooperate in naval combat as well as the advancement of the service so as to firmly protect national sovereignty over sea and islands.

Over the past ten years of construction and development, the unit’s troops have overcome difficulties to master weapons and equipment, excellently performed their patrol and training tasks in the Truong Sa archipelago, DK1 platforms, and the Southern continental shelf, effectively participated in safeguarding national sovereignty, and regularly conducted live-fire training at sea, contributing to raising the position of the Naval Service.
