Border troops encouraged to safeguard border security and prevent COVID-19
PANO – Major General Le Duc Thai, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Border Guard Command, on April 24 inspected and encouraged border guard troops who are carrying out missions at COVID-19 checkpoints in Ha Giang province.

Since COVID-19 broke out, under the instruction of the Border Guard Command and local leadership, the provincial Border Guard Command has set up 68 checkpoints and formed 15 mobile teams with 322 troops to guard at border gates, border areas and border-crossings.
The unit also fostered information dissemination to raise local people’s awareness of the disease prevention and control. Furthermore, they received 1,150 Vietnamese citizens who returned from COVID-19-hit countries and handed them over to medical personnel in quarantine areas.
Over the past time, troops of the provincial Border Guard Command have guarded in border areas and border gates to prevent the virus from entering the country, equipped ethnic minority people with measures to protect themselves from the disease and strengthened cooperation with relevant forces from neighboring countries to contain the pandemic.
At the meeting, General Thai praised the achievements in COVID-19 prevention and control of troops from the provincial Border Guard Command and emphasized that even though Vietnam hasn’t recorded any new COVID-19 cases for eight consecutive days the disease is still developing complicatedly.

He asked the province’s border guard force to promote the beautiful virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers to both firmly safeguard border security and sovereignty and protect troops and local people from being infected by the virus.
On this occasion, General Thai visited and presented gifts to people in Dong Van district and thanked local leadership and people for helping the border guard force in safeguarding border security and sovereignty as well as in preventing and controlling COVID-19.
He presented certificates of merit to five groups and 20 individuals who contributed to the disease containment work.
