Border guards staunchly protect national sovereignty
PANO – The Border Guard Command reviewed the force’s task performance this year in Hanoi on December 5 under the chair of its Commander, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien.
In 2017, the national sovereignty over and social order on border areas was absolutely secured. Border guards actively and proactively made recommendations to the Party, State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense to issue guidelines, policies, and resolutions on border protection missions.
Especially, the force worked closely with forces of Vietnam’s neighboring countries to effectively address issues relating to their shared borderlines. Both sides implemented fully the three legal documents on the Vietnam-China border, signed the Protocol on the Vietnam-Lao borderline and national border markers, and the Vietnam-Lao Agreement on Border and Border Gate Management Regulations and enhanced the border demarcation and border marker planting activities on Vietnam-Cambodia borderline.
In 2017, the force detected and solved over 10,000 cases, and arrested more than 14,000 suspects.
Additionally, they joined hands with localities where they are stationed to help promote poverty reduction and carry out gratitude programs.
Addressing the event, General Chien asked border guard units in the whole force to continue to embrace the resolutions and guidelines of the Party and State as well as instructions from higher levels on managing and protecting shared border areas, fighting crime and effectively dealing with emerging issues to maintain stability, security and order along the borderline.
