Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control under the Ministry of National Defense, chaired the conference.
Over the past time, the Border Guard Command has directed its affiliated units to increase patrols and control illegal border crossings. Accordingly, the unit has mobilized 77,145 troops to inspect border gates and trails.
The command has also implemented the Prime Minister's direction on suspending cross-border activities of individuals at main and auxiliary border gates, and coordinating with functional agencies to adjust immigration procedures for citizens at border gates, as well as sending medical staff to work in border areas.
Through immigration control, the border troops detected 32 cases, arrested 240 criminal suspects, and handled 411 cases of organizing illegal immigration.
Earlier, the border guard force comprehensively implemented measures to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the event, Gen. Tan acknowledged and highly appreciated the outstanding achievements of the Border Guard Command over the past years.
He asked the border guard troops, especially the forces in the 25 localities sharing the borderline with neighboring countries to continue to embrace and strictly implement the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense on COVID-19 prevention and control.
The units should strictly maintain their combat readiness missions at check-points at border gates and open paths and tracks, and promptly detect and prevent people from illegally entering Vietnam.
General Tan also suggested that the Border Guard Command's Party Committee should promote information dissemination on COVID-19 prevention to people, and successfully implement its key political tasks and fulfill all assignments.
