Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Chief of the Border Guard Command, chaired the meeting.
According to reports and speeches delivered at the meeting, the Party Committee and the chain-of-command of the Vietnam Border Guard actively followed situational developments, gave recommendations and made proposals to higher levels to manage and protect the national border and to build a strong border guard force. With their timely reports, the Prime Minister directed relevant ministries, agencies, and localities to deal with violations and other issues arising along the borderline, as well as to carry out the firm management and protection of the national border and territorial waters sovereignty and security.
Under the sound direction of the Party Committee and the chain-of-command of the Vietnam Border Guard, border guard units effectively suppressed criminals related to drug and human trafficking, smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit along the borderline and in the territorial waters. They processed 117 cases, arrested 8,728 suspects, and seized various items, including more than 1,000kg of illegal drugs.
The Command’s affiliated units also maintained the examination and supervision of land and port border gates, solved arising issues at border gates in a timely manner while abiding by all regulations. They also implemented e-border procedures at the Ministry of National Defense-run border gates.
Regarding missions for the rest of the year, the officials mandated that the border guard force continue to follow closely any developments beyond the national boundary, along the borderline, and at border gates. They should also give advice to effectively solve situations while promoting border management and protection and border gate check, work closely with other forces to firmly safeguard the national territorial sovereignty and border security and protect fishermen fishing offshore.
Border guards will also be active in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and crime prevention and control.
