The event was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security, and chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the National Plan on Combat against Drugs, Human Trafficking, Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeit and on Practice of Thrift and Anti-wastefulness (Steering Committee 1389) of the Ministry of National Defense.
Over the past time, the Command has embraced and seriously followed the Party’s and the Government’s guidelines and policies, as well as the directions from the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.
The Party Committee and Chain-of-Command of the Vietnam Border Guard have provided good proposals for local Party committees, authorities, other units, and raised awareness of people from all walks of life in border areas of the drug-related crime prevention and control.
From the beginning of last year to May this year, the border guard force smashed 693 cases, arrested 906 suspects, seized 1,967kg of drugs of different kinds, 36.3kg of opium resin, 194kg of opium poppy pods, 320kg of marijuana, 41 guns, 405 bullets and other items.
In his speech, General Chiem acknowledged and praised the border guard force for their achievements in the fight against drug-related crimes and drug-trafficking along the borderline.
The Deputy Defense Minister requested the force to thoroughly grasp decisions, directives and directions on the tasks issued by the Prime Minister, the Central Military Commission, Ministries of National Defense and Public Security while actively and proactively giving recommendations to local Party committees and authorities and working closely with public security, customs, coast guard and other forces stationed in border areas and on islands.
The force was also asked to boost dissemination of information and laws to the public with the aim of raising their awareness of observing the laws and other policies of the Party and State, thereby saying no to getting involved in drug-trafficking or supporting drug-related criminals.
Apart from strengthening the strong whole people’s defense posture in couple with the people’s security posture, the force should promote the drug-related crime prevention in border areas as well.
