Currently, the An Giang provincial Border Guard Command is managing a length of 98.211km (85.859 km on land, 12.352km on river) of national border, the area includes plains with many rivers and canals, contributing to creating favorable conditions for illegal border crossings.
Until now, the An Giang provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with relevant forces, has maintained 202 checkpoints and implemented the dual tasks of managing border areas and preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
From January 1 to May 15, 2021, Border Guard posts of the An Giang provincial Border Guard force received and handed over 1,811 immigrants to quarantine facilities managed by the local Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
The unit also made good preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the provincial People’s Council in the 2021-2026 tenure.
Concluding the inspection, Major General Le Duc Thai, Commanding General of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, thanked the local authorities and people for supporting An Giang border troops over the past time. He also hailed their efforts in the fight against illegal border crossings and the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also asked the An Giang provincial Border Guard Command to focus on external border activities, work with neighboring countries to address arising issues to effectively combat smuggling and prevent illegal exit and entry.
Regarding election work, the commander requested the troops to exercise their citizen rights while firmly protecting the national borderline and curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
