To help participating teams imagine the real situation and hone their skills before the competition, a 6sq.m training compartment with 2m width and 3m length, simulating the inside of a ship equipped with modern technology, was set up. The ship has five holes, and water is pumped into the holes sequentially at a pressure of 3kgf/cm2. In this narrow compartment, the mission of a team of five people is to find these holes and repair them with specialized emergency equipment and deal with other emerged circumstances in the shortest time to prevent the ship from sinking. The participating teams are equipped with a 40-50kg steel lever-jack and 2m long wood stakes to seal holes. To deal with these heavy and long equipment items in a small compartment, all members of the team have to cooperate harmoniously and make swift, but accurate movements to complete the task as quick as possible.

Preventing water ingress in ships is one of the four competition exercises in the “Sea Cup” contest of the Army Games 2021, together with “Using Life-Saving Appliances,” “Performing Artillery Fire” and “Maritime Training.” For all naval troops, it is considered their vital mission requiring them to practice hard to comprehend essential skills to handle all possible incidents and circumstances during training or combat. Aware of the significance of this mission and tasked with preparing personnel to join the games, the Vietnam People’s Navy and agencies under the Naval Region 4 Command carefully selected the most experienced and skillful troops to train for the competition. All selected troops took part in various intensive training programs in a bid to augment their ability of mastering ships and all their weapons and equipment.
According to Lieutenant Nguyen Duy Phong, head of the ship protection team, as the time for training in the simulation training compartment in Vladivostok City is limited, all members of the team have to make the most of it to practice. After each training session, the team meets to analyze mission performance so as to develop suitable measures to improve their performance.

Lieutenant Phong said that before heading to Russia for the competition, the Vietnamese Naval Contingent took part in an intensive training program with requirements higher than that of the Army Games 2021. “With the team’s performance at Russia’s training facility over the past time, we are confident and ready for the games and determined to bring glory to the nation,” said Phong.
Although this is the first time that the contingent of the Vietnam People’s Navy has participated in the “Sea Cup” contest, it is strongly believed that with high resolve, the team will bring glory to Vietnam, contributing to affirming the capabilities and strength of the Vietnam People’s Navy.
