Vietnamese L2FH’s personnel join CASEVAC exercise in Bentiu
PANO – The Level-2 Field Hospital (L2FH) Rotation 3 of Vietnam has cooperated with level-1 field hospitals of other foreign units in Bentiu (South Sudan) and relevant agencies to conduct a large-scale Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) Exercise.
The exercise, operated by the Commanding Officer of the U.N. Peacekeeping Mission in Unity State of South Sudan, was one of the important activities to raise medical personnel’s capabilities of dealing with emergencies and foster coordination among units as well as among medical personnel in settling life-threatening circumstances.
During the exercise, members of the aero-medical evacuation team (AMET) of the Vietnamese L2FH Rotation 3 effectively dealt with different circumstances, receiving compliment from the Commanding Officer of the U.N. Peacekeeping Mission in Unity State and international colleagues.
Particularly, according to simulation situation, the AMET’s members were required to move to a helipad in Bentiu to provide first aid to victims from a road accident and a conflict and a snake-bite patient. After providing first aid, the AMET flew the patients to the L2FH Rotation 3 of Vietnam and treated them.
Apart from impressing international colleagues with their professional competence, members of the L2FH Rotation 3 of Vietnam also demonstrated their quick response to different situations and close coordination with other field hospitals in the country. For severely-injured cases that were beyond its capacity due to the lack of medical equipment, the L2FH Rotation 3 quickly contacted with and completed all paperwork to fly them to India’s Level-2 Plus Field Hospital in Juba for treatment.
At the end of the exercise, members of the L2FH Rotation 3 in general and AMET in particular were highly appreciated by the Commanding Officer of the U.N. Peacekeeping Mission in Unity State for their serious commitment to the mission, their quick response and ability to deal with circumstances. He said that Vietnamese military medical personnel’s performances in the practice part of the exercise met strict requirements of the U.N.
Actual situation may be more complex and more dangerous than that in the simulated situations in the exercise; however, it is strongly believed that with professional competence and skills enriched during regular training and close coordination with other units in the locality, the L2FH Rotation 3 of Vietnam will successfully fulfill all missions.
Below are some photos of the exercise.
