Vietnamese engineering force joins UNISFA’s foundation day in Abyei
PANO - A ceremony was held on March 15 at United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA)’s stadium in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the reconfiguration of the mission into a U.N. multinational peacekeeping force.
The UNISFA’s acting Head of Mission and Force Commander Brigade General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr attended the event.

UNISFA previously consisted of Ethiopian personnel as the only country permitted by the U.N. to send a temporary security force to Abyei. Recently, the UNISFA has been restructured and many countries could send forces to participate in ensuring security and safety for the area.

The event was held solemnly with the participation of seven units, consisting of Indian Infantry Battalion, Ghanaian Infantry Battalion, Pakistanis Infantry Battalion, Bangladeshis Infantry Battalion, Vietnamese Engineering Company Rotation 1, Chinese Helicopter Unit and Nepalese Unit in task of securing the Mission’s Headquarters.

Vietnamese cuisine attracting many international friends |
In the framework of the ceremony, the UNISFA launched cultural and culinary exchange among participating units in the mission. The food stall of the Vietnamese Engineering Company, imbued with national culture such as peach trees, hats, conical hats of Hue, made a good impression on international friends. On the occasion, the Vietnamese force introduced the participants to image of the country, people and famous destinations.

Earlier, the UNISFA organized a sports exchange for all participating units. The Vietnamese engineering force joined almost all the contents with remarkable outcomes.

The event contributed to affirming the responsibility and solidarity of blue-berets forces from various countries in performing international duties in Abyei.
