General Vong Pisen, leading a high-ranking Cambodian military delegation to visit Vietnam from October 29-31, made the above statement at the talks with Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, on October 30 at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense.
Before the talks, General Giang chaired a solemn reception ceremony for the Cambodian delegation.
At the meeting, General Giang congratulated General Vong Pisen on his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the RCAF.
He confirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State, military and people always bear in mind and highly appreciate great assistance from the Cambodian Government, people and RCAF to Vietnam during the national salvation cause in the past and the current national construction and defense cause.

General Giang stressed that Vietnam always attaches importance to preserving and consolidating its fruitful traditional ties with Cambodia, regarding it as an invaluable treasure of the two nations which needs further developing in the current period.
For his part, General Vong Pisen thanked the host for the solemn reception and affirmed that the bilateral defense cooperation is one of the important contents which senior leaders of the two nations, including those in the military, have paid due attention to.
The Cambodian Commander-in-Chief believed that the flourishing relationship between the two militaries will contribute to ensuring each country’s political stability and security and maintaining peace, stability and development of the individual country as well.

During the talks, both generals agreed that the outcomes of the two militaries’ cooperation have made active, effective and practical contributions to enhancing the good traditional relations between the two governments and peoples. The two senior officers added that the cooperation has become a pillar of the two countries’ ties, partly promoting sustainable and stable development in other cooperation realms.
The two sides agreed to continue directing their relevant military agencies and units to implement seriously and effectively the cooperation plan of the two ministries of defense for 2019, enhance cooperation and mutual support between military regions, further cooperate in searching, gathering and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer troops and advisors who sacrificed their lives in wartime in Cambodia.
They also reached an agreement on boosting joint patrols, management over border land markers, crime prevention and control and on upholding political security, social order and safety along the shared border areas.
