During the meeting, Gen. Dao affirmed that in recent years, the cooperative activities between the Vietnamese and Chinese coast guards have been continuously strengthened, expanded, and innovated in both forms and content.
2024 marks deep and comprehensive cooperation in maritime law enforcement between the coast guard forces of the two countries. Based on the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation signed in June 2016, the two sides have established such annual cooperation mechanisms as the Vietnam - China Coast Guard Work Meeting, joint patrols in the waters adjacent to the Gulf of Tonkin demarcation line (twice a year), young officer exchange, and mutual ship visits.
At the 7th Vietnam - China Coast Guard Work Meeting, the two sides agreed to enhance new cooperative activities focusing on conducting joint patrols to combat maritime crime and violations (conducted quarterly) and establishing an annual exchange program on party and political work.
