The delegation of Sailing vessel 286 - Le Quy Don, led by Senior Colonel Phan Van Van, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Naval Academy, paid a courtesy visit to Rear Admiral Abdul Aziz bin Tamit, Commander of the Brunei Navy.

At the meeting, Sen. Col. Van introduced the sailing ship and his crew to Rear Admiral Apdul Aziz bin Tamit. Accordingly, the sailing ship, named after the 18th-century Vietnamese philosopher, Le Quy Don, was commissioned to the Vietnam People’s Navy on March, 2016 and has ever been used to train naval cadets. “This is the first time the Vietnam Naval Academy has organized such a long-distance maritime trip training course for its senior students. During the field training course, the students are supposed to apply their knowledge learnt at the school to well performing real on-deck tasks and absorb practical experiences. Additionally, via such a visit, they have good opportunities to exchange with foreign peers and practice defense cooperation,” he said.

Regarding the visit to Brunei, he emphasized that the leadership, crew and students on the sailing vessel have been tasked to enhance friendship, cooperation between the Vietnam People's Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy in particular and the Vietnam-Brunei defense relations in general.

He also highly valued recent developments in relations between the two navies, especially the establishment of a hotline directly connecting the two navies.

Sen. Col. Van expressed his belief that cooperation between the two navies would be further promoted in the coming time, contributing to ensuring regional peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

For his part, Rear Admiral Apdul Aziz bin Tamit expressed his pleasure at receiving the Vietnamese delegation and sailing vessel 286 – Le Quy Don and hoped to continue to welcome more ships of the Vietnam People's Navy to Brunei in the coming time.

The same day, the Vietnamese delegation visited the Officer Training School under the Brunei Defense Academy.

During the visit, the visiting Vietnamese senior cadets will have an exchange program with the Royal Brunei Navy, visit the Maritime Museum, National Museum and Center for Arts and Crafts.
