The visit was at the invitation of the Chinese Coast Guard. It was one of the activities in realizing the memorandum of understanding inked between the two countries’ coast guard forces last June and is the first friendly visit to a foreign country of a Vietnamese coast guard ship.

The visit was significant to bolster the friendship, mutual understanding and trust between the two coast guard forces.

During a visit of a Chinese coast guard ship to Hai Phong city last November, the two sides are hoped to help minimize possible crashes and conflicts in the Vietnamese waters and to improve the two nations’ exchanges.

During the visit, the Vietnamese mission will pay a courtesy call to leadership of Hainan province, hold talks with the Chinese coast guard force, visit Nanhai Division of the Chinese Coast Guard, share experiences on preventing transnational crimes as piracy, border-crossing, terrorism, weapons, explosives, drugs and counterfeit money and human trafficking; on searching and assisting people in distress at sea. They will also discuss conditions for the two countries’ troubled people and vehicles as well as joint patrols in waters near the maritime delimitation in the Gulf of Tonkin.

After the visit, officers and soldiers of the Vietnamese ship are expected to improve their capabilities in carrying out and organizing external affairs and international exchanges.
