On November 20, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister, Head of the Vietnam inter-sectoral working group for Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, and Head of Defense Ministry’s Steering Committee on Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, handed over decisions and assigned tasks to the seven officers.

As scheduled, they will leave Vietnam for the target countries late June and early July this year.

Notably, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thi Lien, a commando officer and the only female peacekeeper in the deputation, will serve as a training advisor. This is also the second time Vietnam has sent an individual female officer to a UN mission, thus increasing the number of Vietnamese female staff in UN peacekeeping missions suggested by the UN.

Assigning missions to the seven officers, General Vinh asked them to surmount all difficulties during their assignment to build a beautiful image of the Vietnam People’s Army in the eyes of foreign friends. He believed that they would successfully fulfil such a noble international service.

On behalf of the officers, Lieutenant Colonel Luong Truong Vinh held that they all have fully comprehended their missions and have completed all preparations for the deployment, and affirmed their willingness and determination to successfully fulfill all missions assigned by the Party, the State and the military.

Since 2014, Vietnam has deployed 37 individual officers and a level-two field hospital to UN missions.
