Vietnam, Japan expand cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, received Ms. Yada Junko, Director of the International Security Policy Office, Bureau of Defense Policy, Japanese Ministry of Defense, in Hanoi on May 9.
At the reception, General Minh underlined that the Vietnamese Defense Ministry and General Staff always support and create favorable conditions for both sides to foster their cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations.

In addition, he suggested the two sides continue to expand their bilateral defense cooperation in personnel training, defense industry, and information technology.
The host believed that after the recent official visit to Vietnam by Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi lwaya, followed by Ms. Yada Junko’s on-going trip, the bilateral defense ties would further develop in the coming time.
For her part, Ms. Yada Junko informed General Minh of outcomes of her earlier talks with leaders of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department.
She expressed her delight when Japan and Vietnam will successfully co-chair the ADMM+ Experts' Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations in the 2020-2023 period when Hanoi becomes the Chair of ASEAN in 2020.
