At the reception, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien congratulated Cuba on successfully organizing the Parliamentary elections. He expressed his hope that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, the country would gain more achievements in its path to socialism.
He also affirmed that Vietnam and Cuba enjoy a traditional friendship and special solidarity, which were built by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro and have been nurtured by the two countries’ leaders, peoples and militaries. Vietnam always bears in mind the support of Cuba with the spirit of “For Vietnam, we are willing to shed our own blood,” during its cause of national liberation and construction.
The Vietnamese deputy defense minister also noted that over the past time, the Vietnam - Cuba traditional friendship and special solidarity have been enhanced and developed, via the high-ranking visits of both countries’ leaders.
Recently, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid an official visit to Cuba. On this occasion, the Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation, led by its deputy defense minister Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam had a meeting with leaders of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Gen. Chien also noted that the bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries is a pillar, contributing to promoting bilateral cooperation in other fields.
On the basis of their cooperation agreement signed in 2011 and defense cooperation plan for the 2020-2022 period, both sides have reached many important achievements in defense industry, air defense - air force, education and training, military medicine. In the coming time, Gen. Chien urged the Cuban officer to closely work with Vietnamese functional units to effectively implement the signed cooperation contents.
For his part, Colonel Román Osvaldo Jiménez Ortega thanked the Vietnamese defense leader for his warm reception, while affirming the importance of the Vietnam - Cuba special relationship, especially the bilateral defense cooperation. He underlined that in his position he will try his best to further boost the bilateral defense cooperation, and then report the contents of the meeting to higher levels so as to soon implement them in the time to come.
