Vietnam, Canada hold bilateral defense consultation in 2022
PANO - The 2022 Vietnam - Canada bilateral defense consultation was held on September 29.

Co-chairs of the event were Senior Colonel Vu Thanh Van, Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, and Mr. Peter Hammerschmidt, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) at the Canadian Department of National Defense.
At the event, the two sides affirmed that the defense ties have played an increasingly important role in the Vietnam-Canada comprehensive partnership and received much attention from defense leaders of the two countries. They highly valued the bilateral defense cooperation outcomes reached since the Vietnam - Canada Defense Policy Dialogue in June last year in line with the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defense relations and the Three-year Plan for Bilateral Defense Cooperation in the 2021-2023 period.
They reached positive achievements in various fields such as dialogue and consultation, training, U.N. peacekeeping, maritime security, defense industry, and so on.

Regarding to the upcoming cooperation programs, the two sides agreed to work out activities in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Canada (1973-2023), continue to effectively implement the signed papers, and researched to expand other cooperation fields that suit both sides’ interests and needs.
They also consented to collaborate to sign a memorandum of understanding on U.N. peacekeeping operations soon, and give consultation to each other on issues of mutual concern in multilateral forums, contributing to peace, stability, and joint development of the region and the world.
