At the talk, the two sides highly valued the outcomes of the bilateral defense ties last year. In spite of difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides effectively carried out most contents of their cooperation plan in 2020, especially in personnel training, mutual assistance in COVID-19 prevention and control, as well as cooperation in managing the shared border and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer troops who sacrificed their lives while carrying out their international service in Cambodia.
Additionally, the two sides worked out suitable cooperation methods while applying COVID-19 prevention measures.
General Tea Banh congratulated Vietnam on successfully completing its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020. On the occasion of the New Year, the Cambodian defense minister wished his Vietnamese counterpart and Vietnamese troops good health, happiness and success.

Regarding bilateral cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to carry out the contents of the defense cooperation protocol for the 2020-2024 period and this year’s cooperation plan with a focus on enhancing information dissemination on the time-honored friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two States, people, and militaries.
They will continue to improve the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms, including the defense policy dialogue which is considered an important channel for the two sides to reach common concepts on regional security issues and to orient their cooperation contents.
The two defense ministries will organize more delegation exchanges at all levels, boost cooperation in personnel training, and strengthen coordination between military units, other border management and protection forces in preventing transnational crimes, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, contributing to ensuring border security and order in each country.
Before concluding the talk, both generals virtually signed the 2021 cooperation plan.
