During the talks

Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard Major General Le Duc Thai, representatives of the Department of Foreign Relations and MND attended the event. For the Cambodian side, General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chai Na-Vuth took part in the meeting.

During the talks, the two sides highly valued the cooperation, friendship, good tradition, and close coordination between the two militaries in general, and the border management and protection between the two border forces in particular.

Specifically, the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Army Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have always maintained, reinforced and promoted cooperation, while effectively implementing border protection missions and ensuring political security and social order along the shared borderline, contributing to building a Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.

The Vietnamese side presents the Cambodian side money and medical supplies to help them fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, despite consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides still maintained joint patrols, protected border areas, and ensured social order in the areas. They also coordinated to upgrade border gates and international border gates. Regarding COVID-19 prevention and control, Vietnam presented medical supplies, worth VND 3.3 billion, to Cambodia.

At the event, the two sides also discussed several contents of mutual concern and agreed to promote cooperation in a number of fields, such as border protection, COVID-19 prevention and control, external affairs in border areas,  prevention and combat of drug crimes, human trafficking and smuggling, and search and rescue missions, among others.

Also during the meeting, leaders of the Vietnam Border Guard Command signed an agreement to donate USD 10,000 and medical equipment worth VND 300 million to the Army Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to help them in the COVID-19 fight.
