Before the departure, the cadets were briefed on safety regulations for operations at sea. Throughout these activities, the officers in charge and the demonstration team directly instructed them and corrected their techniques.

The cadets were divided into three groups assigned to the cabin, the mizzenmast, and the mainmast areas for the training session. They took turns participating in the introduction to the ship’s control system; receiving instructions on how to maintain course, change course, and steer the ship following the captain’s commands; and practicing position fixing using satellite positioning, a sextant, and a compass.

In addition, the cadets gained hands-on experience with basic operations of the sail system, including hauling, securing, locking, and coiling ropes; hoisting and lowering headsails; and hoisting and lowering square sails on the foremast.

The activities on Sailing Ship 286-Le Quy Don provided the international naval cadets with practical experience in sailing operations, thereby helping to enhance exchanges and mutual understanding between cadets of the Viet Nam People’s Army and the Viet Nam People’s Navy and those of foreign militaries and navies.
