Major General Le Quang Dao, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, and Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Narag Punzalan, Deputy Commandant for Operations of the Philippine Coast Guard, co-chaired the event.

During the event, the Vietnam Coast Guard and its Philippine counterpart reviewed their coordination over the past time. Both sides shared a view that the two forces have stepped up bilateral and multilateral cooperation activities, contributing to promoting friendship, common development, and mutual benefits between the two forces and the two countries as well.

In particular, in October 2011, the two sides signed an agreement on the establishment of a hotline mechanism in Manila, the Philippines. In May 2012, the two units inked a regulation on the operation of the hotline between the two forces in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Via communication lines, both sides have regularly exchanged information and updated situation at sea and the fight against piracy and armed robbery at sea in Asia while accelerating cooperation in search and rescue missions.

In addition, the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard have actively engaged in other multilateral forums, including the Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting, the Southeast Asia Maritime Law Enforcement Commanders' Forum, the Maritime Law Enforcement Dialogue held by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and other activities.

Concluding the meeting, the two units agreed to continue information sharing and cooperation activities, contributing to ensuring security, safety, stability and development in the territorial waters of the two countries.
