Defense Minister receives Chief of Thai Defense Forces
PANO - Minister of National Defense General Phan Van Giang received visiting General Songwit Noonpackdee, Chief of Defense Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces on July 5 at the Ministry of National Defense’s headquarters.
At the reception, Gen. Giang stressed that the two countries’ elevation of their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in May this year was a historic milestone, opening up a new chapter in the bilateral relations. He affirmed that Vietnam always pays due attention to constantly consolidating its good friendship and cooperation with Thailand.

The Vietnamese defense chief highly appreciated the outcomes of the talks between the guest and Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister of Vietnam. He also acknowledged positive results of the bilateral defense cooperation over the past time and the pro-activeness of Thailand in general and the Thai Defense Ministry and Royal Thai Armed Forces in particular in fostering multilateral cooperation, particularly within ASEAN.
The host suggested the two militaries actively implement activities to boost their understanding and mutual trust, focusing on strategic consultation and discussions, and all-level delegation exchanges. He asked the two sides to raise effectiveness of the cooperation between arms and services, beef up collaboration in potential areas that meet each side’s needs and strengths.

Emphasizing that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense supports intensive cooperation between the two militaries, Gen. Giang expressed his hope that the two sides’ cooperation would be more effective, contributing to building and consolidating each country’s defense, and practically promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.
For his part, Gen. Songwit Noonpackdee expressed his delight at the fruitful development of the bilateral defense ties, saying that it is a pillar in the two countries’ partnership.

Showing his impression on Vietnam’s growth achievements, the Thai general believed that the historic two-tier administration model would drive Vietnam to reap more outcomes in the time ahead.
