Vietnam, DPRK foster defense cooperation in more effective manner
PANO – Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien received outgoing Defense Attaché of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Vietnam Kim Myong Chol and DPRK’s newly-appointed Defense Attaché Choe Kwang Il on July 4 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MND).

At the meeting, the Vietnamese defense leader congratulated Senior Colonel Kim Myong Chol on the successful completion of his second term in Vietnam and highly appreciated his contributions during his 11-year tenure, especially in fostering and facilitating the high-level visit by the Vietnamese MND delegation to DPRK in September, 2024.
Welcoming Colonel Choe Kwang Il on his appointment as DPRK’s new Defense Attaché to Vietnam, General Chien expressed confidence that in his new role, Col. Choe Kwang Il would continue to uphold and contribute to the preservation of the traditional friendship between the two nations.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese MND would provide the best possible conditions to support the DPRK’s diplomat in fulfilling his duties, thereby contributing to fostering the bilateral defense cooperation in a firm, comprehensive, and effective manner.
Regarding orientation for future cooperation, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister suggested both sides focus on several key areas such as delegation exchanges; Party and political work; personnel training; defense industry. He also emphasized the need to accelerate the signing of bilateral defense cooperation documents.
During the conversation, Col. Kim Myong Chol expressed his honor at having served two terms in Vietnam as Defense Attaché and emphasized the significance of the visit by General Chien-led high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese MND to DPRK in 2024 in advancing bilateral ties. He also affirmed the strong potential for cooperation between the two militaries.

For his part, Col. Choe Kwang Il voiced his hope that the relationship between the two countries would continue to be strengthened and developed. He pledged to effectively implement the contents reached by the two defense ministries during the visit by the Vietnamese delegation in September, 2024.
