At the working session
According to Senior Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, the center’s Director, Vietnam has sent 12 officers to the UN Mission in South Sudan and the Central African Republic. At present, the country is going to replace five officers in the two missions and dispatch two others to take new positions in the two UN missions. In addition, it is actively making preparations for a level-two field hospital for UN peacekeeping operations and training engineers to join the missions by 2019.

Phung considered the exchange a golden chance for Vietnamese troops to share and learn valuable experiences in training and preparing the deployment of forces to UN peacekeeping missions from the Dutch delegates, who have rich experiences in this field.

During the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel William Boevé, Head of the Netherlands Peacekeeper Training School briefed the host on the missions of the Dutch peacekeeping force as well as steps in training officers as well as answered queries from Vietnamese peers.

The same day, a Russian peacekeeping delegation worked with leaders of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Center. The two sides discussed issues in the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in peacekeeping reached by the Ministries of National Defense of the two countries and directions to boost the two countries’ cooperation in the field.
