Colonel Toan expressed belief that the outcomes of the talks would contribute to further strengthening the relationship between the two agencies and between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and Laos’ General Department of Security. For his part, Colonel Saisaminh Sivilay laid stress on the special solidarity between the two countries that are always ready to support each other.

At the talks, the two sides evaluated the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and Laos’ General Department of Security in December, 2021 as one of the activities to actualize an agreement on regulations on land border and border gate management between the two governments, contributing to maintaining security and order along the shared borderline and strengthening the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

Mentioning the rapid, complicated, complex, and unexpected international and regional situations as well as the crime situation prevention, the two sides evaluated that they have maintained exchange of information related to security, border exit and entry, and criminal activities, thus ensuring security and order in border areas. Notably, they have well coordinated and supported each other in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and facilitating activities through border gates.

An overview of the talks

The Vietnamese and Lao units have fostered dissemination of the agreement on regulations on land border and border gate management between the two governments and the two states’ viewpoints on reinforcing the system of border markers.

At the talks, the heads of the two delegations agreed to strengthen information exchange in the coming time to effectively handle circumstances, coordinate in disseminating information about the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos and actualizing the agreement on regulations on land border and border gate management, provide refresher courses on border management and border exit and entry, promote exchange and twinning activities between border posts of Vietnam and public security posts of Laos, and update each other on their countries’ policies on border management and border exit and entry control.
