In this trip, the Vietnamese peacekeepers visited and presented gifts to local authorities, tribal leaders, and 30 gifts to needy households. Meanwhile, local children received little gifts made from different balloons presented by funny clowns - Vietnamese blue-berets.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ha Ngoc, Director of the Vietnamese field hospital said that in a difficult area like Bentiu, having toys is impossible for children. Therefore, “we would like to bring joys to these disadvantaged kids through such a small but practically meaningful deed,” Col. Ngoc said. He happily said that children were very excited and happy because it was the first time they received such gifts.

The hospital director confirmed that following its predecessors, the field hospital will well perform their healthcare duties in the locality while joining hands to conduct activities for the local community, contributing to shining the good images of the country, people and sympathetic blue-berets of Vietnam.

The above civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) activity of the L2FH Rotation 5 was supported and highly praised by the authorized agencies of the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and international peers.

Col. Ngoc said that these units expressed their willing to cooperate with and accompany the Vietnamese hospital in such significant events.

In this first CIMIC activity of the Vietnam’s L2FH Rotation 5, they were joined by their peers from Mongolia and Thailand.

Such CIMIC activities have helped the images of U.N. peacekeepers become familiar to local people. The Vietnamese field hospital’s activity was more meaningful because it was conducted on the World Humanitarian Day (August 19).

Below are several photos of the first CIMIC activity performed by the L2FH Rotation 5.
