Frigate 016-Quang Trung concludes anti-piracy exercise
PANO - Frigate 016-Quang Trung of Brigade 162, Naval Region 4, on November 22, successfully completed a joint exercise with Chinese and Malaysian naval forces, thereby ending the “Peace and Friendship - 2023” exercise in Zhanjiang, China.
According to the scenario, a cargo ship (played by Ship 887 of the Chinese Navy) was attacked by pirates. The ship sent mayday signals. Once receiving the information, Ships 162 and 551 (China), 176 (Malaysia) and 016-Quang Trung (Vietnam) rushed to the scene.
Among them, Ship 162 sent a speed boat and a helicopter with special force to land the victim ship to deal with pirates and rescue hostages.
The exercise included other contents such as moving ships to designated areas, anchoring at designated areas, moving in formations, and taking aerial photos.
Commander Vu Trong Tan, Captain of the Vietnamese frigate, held that despite harsh weather conditions, the troops actively and responsibly participated in the exercise as scheduled with absolute safety, thereby affirming the competence and ability of the Vietnamese naval force.
After the exercise, the Vietnamese frigate returned to Zhanjiang Military Port for other tasks.
