Banquet held for 71st anniversary of Japan Self-Defense Forces' establishment
PANO - On June 19 in Hanoi, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam hosted a banquet to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the establishment of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (July 1, 1954 – 2025). Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, attended and delivered a speech at the event.
During the event, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki affirmed that the Japan–Vietnam cooperative relationship continues to grow stronger, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, green transition, science and technology, and innovation, with a key focus on human resource development in the semiconductor sector.

Ambassador Ito expressed hope that defense cooperation between the two countries will continue to flourish in the spirit of the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.” He also emphasized that the Japan–Vietnam relationship will be further strengthened for the peace and prosperity of the region and the world.
On behalf of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son extended his congratulations to all generals, officers, and soldiers of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

Lieutenant General Son emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in September 1973, the Vietnam–Japan friendship and cooperation have reached their best stage of development.
He expressed hope that the bilateral relationship in general, and defense cooperation in particular, will continue to grow, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in both countries and across the region.
