Upgraded runways in Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat airports put into use
PANO - An inaugural ceremony of the first stage of the upgrading projects of runways in Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport took place on January 10 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in the attendance of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh.
The upgrading of the runway 1B of Noi Bai International Airport began six months ago and cost about 2.03 trillion VND (over 87 million USD). The runway reopened to traffic on January 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, the project on upgrading runway 25R/07L in Tan Son Nhat International Airport started began on June 29, 2020 with a total investment of over 2 trillion VND (86 million USD). It was built by CIENCO4 Group, Aviation Construction Corporation (ACC) under the Air Defense and Air Force Service, and Aeronautics Project Construction Joint-stock Company 647.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the second phase of the upgrading project in Tan Son Nhat International Airport will upgrade five existing taxiways and build new rapid exit taxiways, connecting taxiways and parallel taxiways, taxiway lights and aviation signboards. The second phase is expected to finish by December 31.
The second phase of the project to repair Noi Bai International Airport’s runways is scheduled to be completed by the Lunar New Year 2022.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Permanent Deputy PM Binh said that Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai are the two largest and most important airports in Vietnam. He added that the resumption of operations of the runways is significant, contributing to boosting socio-economic development and better serving new-generation planes.
