Hanoi will build an additional 130 large trade centers and 30 supermarkets by 2030, according to plans of the city's People’s Committee.

Officials say that these are key city projects in the years to come that aim to  gradually remove traditional markets that cause pollution, disorder and problems related to food safety and hygiene.

Under the master plan, the city will upgrade marketplaces but not build new trade centers or supermarkets in central Hanoi. Instead, they will move the construction of new ones outward to other developing urban areas to ease population and traffic pressure at the city center.

At this point, there are 402 traditional markets, 11 trade centers and 62 supermarkets in Hanoi.
